DIFFERENCES BETWEEN DATING AND RELATIONSHIP

  1. Differences Between Dating and a Relationship

Dating Vs. Relationship

Relationship Issues
A common question in the dating world is what the difference is between dating and a relationship. The main difference is that dating is casual, with no commitments, whereas a relationship is exclusive with a commitment to your partner. A common misconception is that dating is exclusive, this is known as exclusive dating. We will divulge the differences below. What is Dating?
Dating is when two people engage in social activities in order to determine compatibility. In the dating world this means socially interacting with someone you are interested, which could include going out to dinner, attending parties together and so on. Dating is a casual way of getting to know someone on a personal level and deciding if you want to form a relationship.
What Dating is Not
Dating is non-exclusive, which means one or both persons may be seeing multiple people at once. This does not mean that they engage in intimacy with all their dates, but they are exploring their options. This is a healthy method of determining who you are and are not compatible with.
Dating is not a commitment between you and your date. I am not talking about intimacy here, but rather continuous dates. If your date decides to end things after four seemingly good dates, this does not mean that something was wrong with you, but rather there was a compatibility problem. A lot of people have a problem with rejection in this circumstance; however, move on quickly and realize you were not meant for the other person. Forcing someone to engage in a relationship after average dates is not always healthy and can lead to a failed relationship.
What is a Relationship?
A relationship is a commitment between two people, which includes emotional and physical bonds. Relationships should be exclusive with you and your partner. This does not mean dating someone on the side because you are testing your options. A relationship typically occurs after the dating phase, where both parties agree to only see each other in a physical and emotional way.
What a Relationship is Not
Relationships, although exclusive, are not set in stone. Relationships often end because of compatibility and chemistry issues. A relationship is not a method for seeing multiple people during the commitment of the relationship. The main difference between dating and a relationship is the exclusivity factor, where a relationship focuses on the couple, whereas dating focuses on determining a suitable partner for a relationship.
Exclusive Dating vs. Relationships
There is such a thing as exclusive dating, where two individuals agree to only date each other. This is the middle ground between dating and a relationship. It does not mean a solid commitment, but it does mean that both people will only see each other during the courtship, or dating phase. This is does not mean that the couple is in a relationship, but rather that they agree not to play the field during the dating phase. This is common between two people who have a good connection, but are unsure of whether they should take their relationship to another level.
